4.3 Planning Your Future More than a quarter-million students go to college in Maryland. They know that today's fast-paced, technologically driven society makes having a quality higher education more important than ever. So start thinking about college or career schools today — it’s never too soon.

Xtreme Teens programs can help you grow into the successful, competitive young adult you want to be. Come with us and explore colleges that offer programs in teaching, nursing, law enforcement and engineering, or career schools that offer everything from cosmetology to computer training. Important dates for applying to college:
September – January
  • Take SAT I or ACT if the college you plan to attend requires it.
  • Get a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Fill out applications for the school(s) you’re interested in attending.
January – February
  • Mail the FAFSA no later than February 15 and not before January 1.
March
  • March 1 is the deadline for the federal processor to receive your FASFA application if you want to be considered for a Maryland State Scholarship.

Life After Xtreme Teens

After high school, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to stay involved with the Department of Parks and Recreation as a young adult. Take a class, attend a performance, picnic at our parks, play in a league, volunteer with us — the possibilities are endless!

If you’re a college student, you can also consider applying for an internship with us. We offer formal college internships in many fields, including community recreation, planning, design, architecture, youth development, engineering, maintenance, childcare, therapeutic recreation, sports, interpretation, horticulture, history and art. Positions are available for fall, spring and summer semesters.
