Building Block

These valuable, engaging training sessions are designed to assist teens as they venture into the world of volunteering and future employment. The program features four "blocks."  Youth may register for one, two, three or all four blocks. Youth who successfully complete all four blocks will receive a Certificate of Completion and an awesome gift. The Leadership Academy

Focus: Interpersonal Relationships, Team Work and Team Building
This block  will help you learn about your own leadership traits – including how to use them to become a leader in your community and how to build better relationships with adults and peers. You’ll also learn to identify ways to work through conflict and find peaceful resolutions. 

 

This block is offered on the following dates:

Wednesday, October 3, 7-9 pm   
Wednesday, November 7, 7-9 pm    

 

Take it Personally

Focus: Identifying Personal Strengths & Skills
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 20 years? Tomorrow? This block introduces useful techniques to help you set realistic goals, use your time wisely, and commit to your volunteer position and future job placements. Take this session personally!

 

This block is offered on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 10, 7-9 pm   

Wednesday, November 14, 7-9 pm    

My Space: The Real Thing

Focus: The Meaning of Service to the Community
What is student service learning? What is volunteering? What’s the difference between the two? This block focuses on the true meaning of service and why it is so important to get involved in your community.

 

This block is offered on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 17, 7-9 pm   

Wednesday, November 28, 7-9 pm

 

Getting Ready

Focus: Getting Ready for the Workplace
How do you prepare for the workplace? This block explores the importance of proper volunteer and workplace attire and solid interview preparation – including how to highlight  prior service experiences and individual strengths and skills.

 

This block is offered on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 24, 7-9 pm  

Wednesday, December 5, 7-9 pm
