M-NCPPC Online Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s ("M-NCPPC") website(s) (the "Sites") and reviewing our privacy policy. Our privacy policy can be summarized in the following statement: We collect NO personal information, like names or addresses, when you visit our website. If you choose to provide that information to us, it's only used to fulfill your request for information. We do not give, share, sell, transfer, or rent any personal information to third parties.

Some online features are third party applications (e.g. search engines or special interest e-mail distribution programs, bulletin boards, blogs and group discussions etc.). M-NCPPC tries to select vendors with privacy policies consistent with our own. However, visitors are advised to read each vendor's privacy statements for complete information. Persons under the age of 18 should have the permission of a parent or guardian to utilize such resources.

We do collect some technical information when you visit to make your visit seamless. The section below explains how we handle and collect technical information when you visit our website.

When you read pages, browse, or download information on the Sites, we automatically gather and store certain technical information about your visit. This information never identifies who you are.

The information we collect and store about your visit is listed below:

  • The Internet domain (for example, "" if you use a private Internet access account, or "" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a unique number that is automatically assigned to your computer or domain whenever you're surfing the web) from which you access our website;

  • The type of browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape) and operating system (Windows, Mac) used to access our site;

  • The date and time you access our site;

  • The pages you visit; and,

  • If you linked to our Sites from another website, the address of that website.

This information is only used to make decisions around content and layout choices. We learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use in order to present a functional experience.

If you sign up to participate in message boards, blogs, or group discussions on the Sites or to receive a newsletter, publication or to complete a transaction (e.g. rent a park facility or register for a program or activity), specific information may be required for registration purposes. This can include: e-mail address, name, address, phone number, and credit card information (if applicable). Such information may be stored in a secure database for varying lengths of time, and used by M-NCPPC for the stated purpose. We do not give, share, sell, transfer, or rent any personal information to third parties.

On certain Sites, M-NCPPC uses "cookies" to help you use our web sites interactively. A cookie is simply a text-only string that gets entered into the memory of a visitor's computer. Some cookies collect information to recognize your computer in the future.

Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personal identifiable information while on our site, but provides information about your browser "session". If you are concerned about the potential use of information gathered from cookies, you can set your browser to prompt you before it accepts a cookie. Most Internet browsers have settings that let you identify and/or reject cookies.

Sending Personal Information to the Sites

If you choose to provide us with personal information—like filling out a form, with an e-mail address and zip code, and submitting it to us through the website—we use that information to respond to your message, or to fulfill the stated purpose of the communication. If you submit your resume to us electronically we will use your personal information to consider your application for employment. M-NCPPC does not collect or use information for commercial marketing.

We may share information you give us with contractors acting on our behalf or with another government agency if your inquiry relates to that agency.

If you provide comments in response to a request for public comments we may make those comments as well as your identity available to the public in a publication or by posting them on our Web site. Where possible we may give you more specific guidance at the point of collection regarding how your personal information may be used or disclosed.

Children’s Online Privacy Policy Act (COPPA)

M-NCPPC is especially concerned about protecting children’s privacy.

M-NCPPC does not require children to reveal any information that could personally identify them. If a child chooses to provide personally identifying information to us, through an e-mail or interactive method, the information will only be used to enable us to respond to a specific request from the child, and will not be used to re-contact the child or be retained in retrievable form by M-NCPPC.
